Project Description

Title: Stalker
Date: 2001
Media: Water, polycarbonate, steel, electronic equipment, infra red motion sensors.
Location: NESTA, London

Stalker was commissioned by NESTA as a permanent sculpture for their offices in London.

The work is a spinning water vortex contained within a 800mm polycarbonate sphere. The speed, height and rotation of the vortex is governed live by the physical activity of the entire office complex. This is achieved by the placement of infra red motion sensors around the office building. The signal is transmitted remotely to a computer that controls the vortex. Contained within the stainless steel plinth of the sculpture is the pumping mechanism and water storage tank, manifold, lighting and filtration equipment, all invisible to the viewer.
